the end of the day

The next day, woke up early in the morning. Had fried bihun for breakfast and off we went to Portobello Market in Notting Hill. As the name says, this market situated on Portobello Road and sells almost anything imaginable. I like to call it the pasar malam of London. Hehehe..
It has everything from fresh fruits and veggies, freshly cooked noodles, rice, etc to antiques and second hand stuffs. This market was actually made famous by the film Notting Hill starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant back in 1999.
After that we took the tube straight to South Kensington and walked to Imperial College and Royal Albert Hall.
A warning for those who wants to visit London : The tube stations here are not stroller/push chair friendly.
Thank God we just bought a new Quinny Zapp for Maisara before we went to London. So, our “weight lifting” activities were a lot lighter than if we carry her Chicco stroller.
After a few snaps at Royal Albert Hall (ala, hall biasa ja..tempat org tgk theater etc, takdela gah sgt pong..), we walked across the road to Kensington Gardens where a HUGE statue of Prince Albert was there or also known as Albert Memorial. Surrounding the statue was 4 other small statues portraying the continents that he occupied.
Next to Kensington Gardens was Hyde Park. Hyde Park is the largest park in London with the area of 350 acres. Hyde Park was also made famous by the film Notting Hill.
We walked until we reached the Diana Memorial Fountain. This fountain was open to public in 2004 in the rememberance of the late Princess Diana who died in a car accident in 1997.
Then we hopped on bus no. 9 straight to Green Park Lane. Went to HRC to buy some stuff and walked along a park (sorry, lupa nama apa) straight to Buckingham Palace. This palace is the official residence of the British monarch in London.
Right in front of the palace stood the Victoria Memorial which was built in 1911.
After that we walked along St. James’s park straight to the Big Ben and Parliament House.
There was a demonstration in front of the Parliament House. It was a peaceful demonstration demanding the British troops to get out from Iraq and Afghanistan. What amazed me was how the police handled the demonstration. Roads were blocked and there were signboards informing that the demonstration is taking place. No chemical water being sprayed, no tear gas being shot, nothing. The polices’ jobs were just to monitor the situation. Its something that Malaysia can try to adapt to I guess. Instead of handling the demonstrators with violence, they let them demonstrate peacefully as long as the demonstrators don’t disturb the civilian.
Then we walked to London Eye, took several photos and walked back to go to Trafalgar Square.
Along the road we passed by the Prime Minister’s house at Downing Street. Dapat ambik gambaq kat gate je. Security gate dia saja ada 3-4 lapis.
Next to PM’s house is the Horse Guard. Went in to take some photos and continue our walk to Trafalgar Square.
When we arrived there I was surprised to see that its not so amazing as its been described before in movies or films. Its just a square with a fountain. At the time we were there, a preparation for a concert or something was taking place.
Then we went on the Charing Cross tube station headed to South Kensington where Kak Ina & Sahak were waiting.
Had dinner at a Malaysian-Chinese restaurant called C&R. Its owned by a Malaysian Chinese and all the foods served are halal. We ordered nasi goreng, char kuey teow, chicken satay, fried dumplings and mee goreng mamak. They are delicious. The portions are huge and value for your money. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and will definitely dine there again if we ever been to London next time.
Went for a few rounds around Piccadilly Circus before going back home for a good night sleep.
