Sawadikap!! Arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok on 3rd of April at about 12 pm. We were surrounded by taxi and travel agents persuading us to use their services. Since this is the first time for both of us in Bangkok, we decided to hire the airport cab to take us from the airport to our hotel, Zenith Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi, Bangkok. It costed us 850 Baht for 30 km journey. It was a bit shocking at first (lagi mahal drp ambik cab from klia to kl), but we decided to take it because the car was in good condition and the price is fixed (or is it??).
Bangkok is famous for its tailor made suits. That's why Bangkok was included in our itinerary this year. After checking in, one of the worker (adik beradik tokey rasanya) came to pick us up at the hotel and brought us to their shop. After choosing the fabrics and designs (which took about 2 hours, 2 glasses of Coke & 2 free toys for Sara), we took the BTS Sky Train from Nana Station to Siam Station to go to the famous shopping complex in Bangkok, Siam Paragon. The sky train is effective and clean but our main problem was that we have to climb stairs to go to the platform. With the stroller, it was like an exercise for us (lenguh jugak la nak naik tangga bertingkat2 tu).
Siam Paragon is huge, with lots of designers boutiques from Gucci to Pucci (I'm not kidding, there's a designer named "something pucci"). Didn't buy anything except for a pair of Osh Kosh skirt and shirt for Sara (tu pun 50% off). Then we went to MBK for dinner at the food court. There's a halal stall at the food court called Ali if I'm not mistaken. They served mediterranian food such as kebab and also thai delicacies.
After dinner, we went back to the tailor shop for fitting. It was already 9.30 pm when daddy finished his fitting. Then we took the famous type of transportation in Bangkok for tourists, which is the tuk tuk. It cost us 50 Baht for a journey that's life threatening (mamat2 nih cilok x ingat punya..dh la laju gila, rasa mcm nk terbang dh tuk-tuk tu) and less than 5 minutes (which is quite cekik darah but, what the heck!! bukannya selalu pun..ye tak?). After that, we walked along the road in front of our hotel and back we went for a good night sleep.
The next day, woke up early in the morning coz we already booked the half day guided city & temples tour. We were supposed to visit 3 temples but unfortunately, one temple was closed for a ceremony. We went to Wat Po (The Sleeping Buddha) and The Golden Buddha Temple.
Wat Pho is the largest and oldest wat in Thailand (20 acres large). It is 46 meters long and 15 meters high and it is made of steel but coated in gold.(I tell you, this thing is huge..have to snap photos part by part, pastu sambung mcm jigsaw puzzle..hahahaha). And furthermore, the feet & eyes are engraved with mother pearl decoration (don't ask me, i don't know what is mother pearl. mak kepada cik pearl maybe? hahahaha).
The Golden Buddha Temple or Wat Traimit is said to be about 700 years old. The buddha was made of 100% solid gold. This temple is smaller than the Wat Pho but it is as popular as Wat Pho. Next to the golden buddha, there were 2 or 3 other small buddhas (dah berkerak2 dah) and were not made of gold (do I need to mention this? heheh). When we arrived there, there were already a lot of tourists (a.k.a mat saleh) inside the temple taking pictures of the buddha. I also wanted to take pictures (ye la, dh bayar 20B kena la ambik gambaq dak?). It was quite difficult for me to take pictures coz I am as you all know, naturally katik. So, sorry if the quality of the pictures are hancuss...
After that, the guide brought us to a jewellery factory, the Royal Lapidary.Watched a 5 minutes presentation, a guided tour to how to clean and shape a stone and assembling it and of course, the show room. This Royal Lapidary is specialised in mining and cutting precious stones such as jades, sapphire and bla bla bla. Daddy bought me a set of blue sapphire earring and pendant (mula2 malu nak ambik, tapi daddy insist..hehehe..). Thank you daddy for the lovely gift. Mommy janji x shopping lagi for the next 4 months (yeah, right!!). After Royal Lapidary, they took us to another jewellery factory (jahat jgk tour agency ni sebenarnya). we didn't look at anything there. Just went in for the free mineral water and we walked back out. Then they took us to a tailor shop nearby. The person there kept on insisting daddy to order a suit from them but daddy said that he already ordered 3 pairs of suits yesterday. And I ended up buying 2 small items for souvenirs (saja xmau bagi depa kecik ati).
I would like to advice all of you to ask in detail where they are going to take you for the tour. When we signed up for the tour, it said Half Day Temple & City Tour. Then we asked about the city tour and the agent told me that we can ask the guide to take us anywhere we want to go as long as it is within the city (tapi ropa2nya makcik kena tipu, depa dah plan dah semua...). Then since we didn't get to go to the 3rd temple, I asked the guide to take us to Hard Rock Cafe Bangkok as a substitute. At first she refused but then I said that we already missed 1 temple so they should substitute something to us. With a sour face, the guide and the driver agreed to go there but we have to give something to the driver as a reward. Suddenly, the guide wasn't as friendly as before (tanya sepatah, jawab sepatah) and her face turned sour all the way. So, pls beware of this guided tour. Check in details before you pay for anything.
After returning to the hotel, we went for lunch at a Bangladeshi restaurant near our hotel. Fortunately, there were a lot of halal restaurants at Sukhumvit Soi, so food wasn't a problem for us. After lunch, went back to the hotel for a rest and a splash of fun at the pool.
That night, went to SIum Lun Night Bazaar for shopping. Didn't buy much coz we were out of Baht &
dah ala ala nak bankrap. Had dinner at another arab restaurant near our hotel and sleep.
Went to the airport at 8 am the next day coz our flight was at 10 am.So, that wraps up our Bangkok adventure. Macam tak puas tapi mungkin kalau ada rezeki boleh pergi lagi next time. Ye tak, daddy??
